MARIETTA, Ohio - Meccah Ali-McDaniel led the University of Charleston women's track and field team to a strong showing at the Marietta Open with two first place finishes, Friday evening.
Ali-McDaniel torched the field in the 55-meter dash to capture the win with a time of 7.44 seconds. McDaniel continued her winning ways to sweep the sprint events with a victory in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.49 just 0.39 ahead of second place.
MyNiqua Cotton and Emily Bokanovich put forward strong performances in the 400-meter dash. Cotton grabbed second place in the event (1:01.17), while Bokanovich finished fourth (1:04.40).
UC continued its strong history of distance event dominance with a clean sweep of the 1000-meter run by Kourtney Willey, Becca Henderson and Linh Ngo. Willey took the win in a time of 3:25.78.
In the relay events the University of Charleston's new depth proved to be valuable with a win by the distance medley, while grabbing a second place in the 4 X 400 meter relay.
In the field events, Megan Turley continued to improve with a fourth place toss in the shot put with a distance of 10.41 meters, while closing out the meet by taking fifth place in the weight throw (9.98m).
